Lesson C: Macromolecule Types and Structure
Objective: Students will be able to describe the function of each biological molecule as it relates to its structure
Guided Questions
Which molecules are designed for energy storage?
Which molecules are only composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen?
The Problem
You are a researcher on the enterprise. Your team has discovered a world that might be fit for human colonization. Your task is to identify and categorize the food sources found on this planet, and determine if the food is compatible with food found on Earth. Lesson C
Your research team has realized that the basic molecule found in the plant samples were silicon based. They have also discovered that each flesh and plant sample consist of only four types of silicon based molecules, investigate the function of these molecules and complete a vin diagram comparing molecules found on earth with samples.
Another division of your research team is beginning to develop an element designator that has the ability to change elements found in this world with other elements. Discover the best elements to switch out of the samples found on this planet to make the food types consumable. Design a report for the captain about your discoveries and contrast the structure and function of samples with biological molecules found on earth.
